In March of 2016 and again in June I traveled to northeastern California to do an informal artist's residency at the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge. My intention was to study and photograph the Greater Sandhill Cranes on their courting and nesting ground.
From those photographs and with paint handmade from the charcoal remains of the burned down Visitor Center at the Refuge, I was able to create these paintings as a gesture of hope for the hardworking staff and the visitors who so love the Refuge.
